Advantages of Kilkenny Beer Coolers
Why opt for a Kilkenny Cooler?
Patented Pump with Agitation (pat no. 2003902236)
Our specifically designed top mounted air cooled pump is the most efficient in its class. Our competitors use alternatives ranging from submersible pumps to power-hungry generic pumps not designed for the job.
Submersible pumps are water cooled, adding heat to the ice bath. The refrigeration unit must then work harder to cool the beer, costing the publican more money in refrigeration.
Our pumps are centrally mounted and have an integral agitation system, meaning that the Kilkenny cooler does not require a secondary agitator motor as our competitors does.

Cartridge System
Product Coils are grouped into standalone ‘cartridges’. Changing a coil is as easy as undoing two bolts and lifting out the coil. It can even be done while the machine is running without disconnecting the pythons.

Other manufactures have their product coils fixed to the lid of the cooler, which means that the cooler must be deactivated and the entire lid must be removed to change just one coil.
Our coils are also individually colour coded for easy identification and changeover.
Better than Glycol?
Some manufacturers use a glycol fluid bath at sub zero temperatures to chill their beer. The disadvantage of this system is that there is no cooling reserve with glycol, as there is with ice. If the cooler is loaded with a peak in cooling demand in a very short space of time, it may not be able to cope, resulting in warm beer. As a result of this, glycol chillers are usually fitted with much larger refrigeration units to keep the bath cool in times of high demand.
The Kilkenny cooling systems approach is to use the latent heat of melting ice as opposed to the sensible heat of glycol to cool the beer. This means that the Kilkenny cooler uses a smaller refrigeration unit since there is an ice reserve present to cope with peaks in demand. This makes it far cheaper to run too.
This system has reliably provided cool beer to Irish vintners for years, with no need for chiller plates or under counter trimmer coolers, saving space and money for the publican..
In the unlikely even that a refrigeration unit goes down, the cooler has sufficient ice built up to keep cooling beer until a service contractor calls.
Glycol also needs regular topping up due to evaporation and must be carefully mixed in the right proportions. It can be difficult and costly to dispose of due to enviornmental and health and safety regulations. A Kilkenny machine, on the other hand, is just filled with clean tap water, once at installation, and that's it.
